The Problem: Finished House, No Power

It’s a familiar story: the build is at practical completion, the certifier is booked, and the site is still on temporary supply because the meter installation is lost between the network application, the retailer account and the metering coordinator. Every week of delay pushes settlement and costs someone money.

The cause is almost always sequencing — metering treated as a final-week detail instead of a milestone with its own lead times.

The Solution: Sequence the Connection Early

The reliable order is: lodge the network connection application early in the build, get temporary builder’s supply in for the trades, have the switchboard and consumer mains ready before lock-up, open the retailer account, then complete the meter installation and energisation as one final step.

As a Level 2 ASP working with builders across Sydney, we handle temporary supply, service work and the final metering — and because we track the paperwork side, the meter is ready when the site is, not weeks after.

The Result: Energised at Handover

With metering treated as a scheduled milestone, the home is energised for final testing and handover, certifiers aren’t held up, and settlement dates hold.

COMMON QUESTIONS

When should the connection application go in?

As early as practical — ideally around slab stage. Network approval and any street-side work have lead times you can’t compress at the end.

Does each dwelling in a duplex need its own meter?

Yes — each separately occupied dwelling needs its own NMI and meter. Duplexes and townhouse projects should plan multi-position meter boards from the start.
