Two common complaints point at controlled load metering. The first is cold showers — the hot water circuit isn’t being energised during its off-peak window. The second is quieter but costlier: the system heats fine, but it’s wired to the general circuit and paying full peak rates around the clock.
Both often show up after a meter change, a switchboard upgrade or a house purchase, when the controlled load register was dropped or never configured.
Controlled load works by putting the hot water (or other dedicated circuit) on its own metered register that the network energises during off-peak periods. Fixing it means checking the physical wiring at the board, the meter’s register configuration, and that your retailer actually has a controlled load tariff on the account.
