AUSGRID METERING & CONNECTION WORK

If Ausgrid is the distributor on your bill, the network-side steps for a meter, service or connection job follow Ausgrid’s own authorisation, application and notification requirements.

Coverage guidance

WHERE AUSGRID APPLIES

Sydney’s east, north and inner areas, plus the Central Coast

Coverage is address-specific. Use Ausgrid’s official network-area check rather than relying on a suburb list when confirming the distributor for a job.

THE DISTRIBUTOR ROLE

Ausgrid owns and operates the distribution network in its service area. Your retailer manages your electricity plan; Ausgrid’s network requirements still apply to work at the connection point.

Ausgrid’s published ASP2 guidance is specific about service work: an appropriately accredited and authorised provider may install, repair or maintain overhead or underground service lines between a customer installation and the network. That makes the distributor check a practical first step, not just paperwork.

WHAT IS DIFFERENT ON THIS NETWORK

These points come from the distributor’s own public guidance and are the reason this profile exists as a network page rather than a generic service-by-location page.

Ausgrid says an ASP2 can install, repair or maintain overhead or underground service lines between a customer installation and its network.
Ausgrid asks contractors to have an approved Connection Application before service work and to submit a Notification of Service Work (NOSW) where required.
Ausgrid publishes a metering-locking-system requirement alongside its ASP2 installation and service guidance.

THE AUSGRID WORKFLOW

The exact path depends on the installation and the work class. These are the network-specific checkpoints to raise before a meter or connection appointment.

01

Confirm the network and job scope

Check the distributor for the address, then identify whether the work touches the service line, metering position, consumer mains or a customer-only installation.

02

Application before service work

For service work, Ausgrid’s guidance says a Connection Application should be submitted and approved before work proceeds.

03

Notification and metering requirements

The job may require a NOSW and must follow the relevant Ausgrid technical, safety and electricity-metering-locking guidance.

AUSGRID FAQS

How do I confirm that Ausgrid covers my property?

Check the distributor shown on your electricity bill, then use Ausgrid’s official network-area check. Postcode and suburb assumptions are only a starting point because network boundaries are address-specific.

Can a regular electrician complete service-line work on the Ausgrid network?

Work on or near the network must be completed by a provider with the appropriate accreditation, registration and Ausgrid authorisation for the work. Ask what level and class applies to your job.

Will every meter job need a Connection Application or NOSW?

Not every customer-side task has the same process. Ausgrid’s service guidance sets requirements for service work, so the exact application and notification path depends on what the job changes at the connection.
